DEADLINE FOR PRINT ANTHOLOGY PUBLISHED BY COACH HOUSE BOOKS

TITLE: WATCH YOUR HEAD: RESPONDING TO THE CLIMATE CRISIS

DEADLINE
Submissions received before January 31, 2020 will be considered for both the web and the print anthology. Proceeds from the print anthology will go a group focused on climate justice TBD.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for innovative creative works in a variety of forms (poetry, fiction, essays, rants, manifestos, and visual art) that respond to the climate crisis.

We are particularly interested in works that focus on the following: climate justice, Indigenous sovereignty, decolonization, racism, disability, climate science, ecology, extinction, and critiques of colonialism, consumerism, and neoliberalism as they intersect with, implicate, and are implicated in the climate emergency.

We are excited by work that opens up thinking around the climate emergency and that maps out futures, activisms, action plans, antagonisms, rituals of mourning, and resistance.

We would like to encourage submissions from BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ communities, people who identify as living with a disability or as disabled, women, scientists, children and young adults, people outside traditional art and literary communities, and those who identify with other underrepresented groups.

Submissions from outside of Canada are also welcome.

GUIDELINES

  • If works are previously published indicate publication and date.
  • We accept, poetry, prose, hybrid genres, visual art, film, sound
  • Please indicate the genre in the subject line.
  • Send 3 to 5 poems, up to 4000 words for prose, up to 10 images for art.
  • Include a short bio or a short statement about where you heard about the project and why you are interested.

REJECTION
While we would love to publish all the work that we receive, we are not in a position to do so because of  limited time and resources. Like all literary ventures our selections are subjective. A rejection from WATCH YOUR HEAD does not reflect on the quality of your work or your commitment to the climate crisis. If your work is rejected, find other ways to share it or continue to send it out.

We are a volunteer operation and are not able to offer feedback on submissions.

PAYMENT
This is a volunteer operation and a call to action. There is no payment for publication. We're asking writers to volunteer their work for this cause.

PROCEEDS
All proceeds for the print anthology will be donated to a climate group focused on climate justice TBD.
